This regatta presented an opportunity for Nepean rowers to represent their schools for the first time this season. A squad of five rowers all competing in singles took part in the regatta.
The first race of the day for us was Victoria who was representing Penrith Christian School in the year 9 school girls single. A good tailwind seemed an issue for several scullers with many rowers catching crabs and one even falling in. Victoria came out from the start well and kept her focus throughout the race and after recovering from a mistake at around she wend half way she went on to win a close battle against third place to take the silver.
Next up was the schoolboy year 11 single which saw Joel, Chris and Campbell competing for Wycliffe Christian School, Bede Polding College and St. Paul’s Grammar respectively. The helping tailwind turned into a subtle headwind that saw an approximate twenty second turn around in times. Joel came out well however he was pushed through by the Hunter Valley sculler in the middle of the race and he went away with the bronze. Chris came in a few boat lengths after Joel to take out fourth place.
The final race featured Angus representing Penrith Anglican College in the year 10 single. The head wind persisted though this did not affect Angus who held out the other competitors to claim a comfortable first to claim the gold with a twelve second gap to second.
